Question for photographers?

I met with a local pro photographer today to buy one of her Nikon P&S's. She showed me her work which was incredible. She's even been featured in the Italia Vogue, but she has no idea about aperture, ISO, rule of thirds, f-stop, etc. She just primarily uses the closeup/macro mode with autofocus. I'm just wondering if other pro photographers do this too? I was shocked to learn this.
